{"id":246,"date":"2014-06-20T00:14:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-20T00:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/massmobileapps.wordpress.com\/?p=246"},"modified":"2014-06-20T00:14:00","modified_gmt":"2014-06-20T00:14:00","slug":"the-mobile-web-is-dead-its-all-about-apps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/massmobileapps.com\/blog\/the-mobile-web-is-dead-its-all-about-apps\/","title":{"rendered":"The Mobile Web is Dead, It&#8217;s all about Apps!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is becoming more apparent that the one thing people today don\u2019t leave home without is not their American Express card, but their smartphone.\u00a0 They aren\u2019t spending the day making calls, so what are they doing?<\/p>\n<p>Data shows that the average user checks their phone about 110 times a day, and throughout the day they are spending 86% of their time in mobile apps.<\/p>\n<p>The accompanying chart from mobile analytics company Flurry shows just how dominant the native app is compared to the mobile web.\u00a0 The chart shows a 6% growth in mobile app usage compared to a 6% decline in mobile web usage.\u00a0 More significantly, the read rate of promotional emails is between 5% &#8211; 20%, whereas a push notification is read at an astounding rate in excess of 97%.\u00a0 It\u2019s still too early to predict the course apps will take in 2014, but it\u2019s clear to see that mobile web activity is dwindling and the apps are taking over. Now every company in the world is adjusting to that reality<\/p>\n<p>Amazon doesn&#8217;t have to build native apps &#8212; Amazon essentially has no competition. So why do they do it?
